We invite our members, partners and the entire Milwaukee community to join us for our annual party with a purpose! Dressed in cultural attire and Mardi Gras-style costumes, guests of Carnival Milwaukee will enjoy live music by De La Buena and Samba da Vida, flavorful dishes from over dozens of local restaurants, and a large dance floor with performances by Panadanza Dance Company!

In Business (Madison) has recognized Salli Martyniak, former director of Forward Community Investments, with their 2020 Executive of the Year Lifetime Achievement award in recognition of taking FCI from a local loan fund to a statewide CDFI.

Congratulations to Amber Miller of AARP Wisconsin on being sworn in as a Commissioner for the Commission on Aging for Milwaukee County! The Commission on Aging is the policy-making body that oversees the Milwaukee County Department on Aging.

Donsia Strong Hill has stepped down as Executive Director of LISC Milwaukee to do similar work with Cinnaire in Chicago. Thank you for your leadership and impact on the Milwaukee community!

Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity has announced a neighborhood revitalization project in Harambee where an initial grant of $1 million from Bader Philanthropies will build 40 new homes and completing 20 critical repair projects over the next four years.

2020 WEDA Governor’s Conference On Economic Development: February 6-7

Census 2020 Info & Training Session
The Greater Milwaukee Complete Count Committee is hosting another census training session on Friday, February 14 where you will learn about how to encourage your family, community and friends to participate in the 2020 Census and receive education and outreach materials. RSVP to Diane Lopez at 

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program offers free tax preparation and e-filing services to individuals and families with an annual household income at or below $58,000. Many clients used their tax refunds to pay bills, add to their savings accounts, purchase homes, and make home or car repairs. Find area VITA sites and schedule appointments here >>

Funding Opportunity: Fresh Food Access Fund
The City of Milwaukee has a new grant fund focusing on healthy food access in our communities. The Fresh Food Access Fund (FFAF) provides financial support to activities that increase fresh food access and healthy food choices in underserved communities. FFAF is available to for-profit and not-for-profit businesses aligned with the goal of the fund. Learn more about the fund here and join the City for one of their upcoming informational sessions (1/30/20 & 2/2/20) to ask questions and find out more about FFAF objectives, eligibility, funding amounts, the application process and technical assistance. Member Spotlight

The Community Insurance Information Center (CIIC) educates consumers in the Milwaukee area about insurance and insurance products. Focusing mainly on automobile, renters and home insurance, CIIC provides information, referrals and complaint resolution services for free.

Professional Training & Education
CIIC also provides training and education opportunities for nonprofit housing and financial counselors on a variety of insurance issues. Programs are always free and scholarships are routinely provided to assist with travel expenses. Staff from CIIC will also join you at your office for a meeting or training to to share information relevant to you and your clients.
