March on Milwaukee 50th Anniversary

For 200 consecutive days - August 1967 to March 1968 - local civil rights activists protested racial discrimination in housing through marches across the city. The March on Milwaukee contributed to African-Americans national fight for civil rights and the passage of the federal Fair Housing Act.
  • Get the History
Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service has created a series of articles, videos and photographs examining various aspects of the March on Milwaukee in their 'Open Housing anniversary series'. Explore the series here >>
  • Get Involved
To commemorate the courage and perseverance of the individuals who marched for 200 consecutive nights to demand an end to housing segregation, the MOM50 Coordinating Committee will be carrying out 200 Nights of Freedom programming which will use public events to reflect upon the original spirit of the marches. Things get underway at the end of August. Visit the newly launched-website to learn about how you can contribute to the effort.
