A Shifting Landscape: Let us know how we can help
Every month, UEDA recognizes the impactful work carried out by our members and partners through this newsletter. Many of these same organizations receive funding through the federal programs discussed below. We do this because every day, through your work, we see the local impact of programs such as CDFI, CDBG and HOME - all of which have consistently resulted in a positive return on investment and leverage private, community-based investments to help small businesses launch, neighborhoods address safety and develop public spaces, first-time homebuyers make that purchase, youth receive job training and earn their GED and homeowners receive financial assistance to repair their homes.

Over the next few months, we will be working hard to advocate on behalf of our members and these programs. If you have ideas on how UEDA can specifically do this, please feel free to contact us via email or phone and share! We are here to support you.

Potential Impacts of 2018 HUD Budget
The President's 2018 budget for the Department of Housing and Urban Development proposes deep cuts and policy changes that would weaken rental assistance programs, and calls for outright elimination of the HOME, Community Development Block Grant, Choice Neighborhoods programs and the National Housing Trust Fund. For more detailed information, and to access a chart that reveals state-level impact, read this recent post from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities >>

CDBG Funding & Milwaukee's Nonprofits
Local organizations dedicated to stabilizing neighborhoods and improving quality of life for Milwaukee residents would be impacted most by cuts to CDBG funding. A recent post by the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee highlights the work of a few area organizations that receive CDBG funding and notes that we 'can't separate fiscal issues from social issues.'
