Community Conversation with SEWRPC & UEDA
VISION 2050 Trends in Transportation & Land Development

December 7 | 11:30am to 2:00pm | Milwaukee High School of the Arts

Join us for an overview of the region's long-range land use and transportation plan, VISION 2050, and provide feedback to the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC) related to recent land use and transportation changes, trends, and issues that should be considered as VISION 2050 is updated in 2020. Light lunch is provided at 11:30am followed by a two-hour program with facilitated small group discussions. Forward Community Investments is currently accepting online video submissions for their 2020 Game Changer Grant Program where awardees receive $3,000 for racial equity work. Submission deadline is December 11.

Congratulations to WWBIC on being awarded $650,000 from the Federal CDFI Fund to help more businesses achieve their goals of launching and succeeding.

The Metropolitan Milwaukee Fair Housing Council recommends affordable homeownership options for Milwaukee to consider and discusses how our Take Root Milwaukee project can assist.

With a lead gift from We Energies, Menomonee Valley Partners announced that businesses in the Valley have joined together to contribute a total of $50,000 to provide housing for Milwaukee's homeless community through the Housing First program.

UpStart Kitchen is nearing the completion of construction! If you are a food entrepreneur looking for affordable kitchen space and business planning support, apply to join today.

The Greater Milwaukee Foundation's first grant cycle of 2020 will support projects/programs that address affordable housing and homeownership in Metcalfe Park, Sherman Park East, Muskego Way, Clarke Square, Harambee, North Division, Silver Spring, Halyard Park and Brewers Hill.

With settlement money from the subprime lending crisis, Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee is providing expanded free legal services to residents in 53204 and 53206.

Chase bank has launched a new website that provides tools to consumers that can enhance saving, budgeting and investing abilities.

Residents are invited to attend one of seven public meetings being held across the region by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission to weigh in on updates to the region's long-range public transportation and land use plan, VISION 2050.

WEDA Webinar Series: Workforce Housing
Wisconsin’s workforce housing shortage is impacting communities and employers across the state. The shortage makes it more difficult to attract or retain workers, impacting the economic competitiveness of communities, regions and businesses. The Wisconsin Economic Development Academy is hosting a series of four webinars on workforce housing that will provide an understanding of the causes and impacts of the shortage, initiatives for addressing the shortage, best practices in workforce housing development and resources and tools to use in your community.

African American Leadership Alliance Launches
AALAM, a volunteer-led initiative, aims to turn Milwaukee into a top ranking, best-in-class region of choice for African-Americans by 2025. That process involves improving the "live, work and play" ecosystem for African-American professionals, increasing the income of those professionals, and partnering with allies in the Milwaukee region to influence strategies that attract and retain diverse employees. Milwaukee County Passes 2020 Budget
The budget was passed with no vetoes and makes significant investments in public transportation, public safety and neighborhood investments in communities most in need. Learn more >>

WWBIC Diversity Driven Accelerator Applications
WWBIC and Wells Fargo are looking to invest in early-stage startups in the Milwaukee area that are scale-able and can get to beta, prototype, or first customers within 3 months as part of their Diversity Driven Accelerator Program. All entrepreneurs are welcome to apply, but preference may be given to women, minority, underrepresented and veteran owned startups. Preference will also be given to Milwaukee County Residents. Application are due by December 6.

Applications Open: Wisconsin LGBT Chamber's 2020 Business Leadership Academy
The mission of the Business Leadership Academy is to develop and foster the next generation of LGBTQ and allied leaders in the workplace by providing quality and transformative programming. The Academy works to provide a small cohort of Chamber members with the skills needed to be successful out LGBTQ leaders in senior management positions. Each of the sessions will be facilitated by industry experts, certified trainers, and other business leaders from the community. Applications are due by January 7, 2020. Learn more here >>

Female-led Venture Fund Raises $3.5 Million
The Winnow Fund, Wisconsin's only active female-led venture fund will invest in pre-revenue startups and build new companies around innovative products created by college students throughout Wisconsin. Learn more >>
