What we're working on...

Since 2019, UEDA has been working to convene a diverse set of stakeholders around the implementation of recommendations to address the impact of evictions as described in the Wisconsin Policy Forum report “No Place Like Home.” Now known as the Milwaukee Rental Housing Resource Center (MKE RHRC), this collaborative effort is working to connect tenants and landlords to trusted resources in order to prevent evictions and improve housing stability. Join us on Monday, November 16 from 12pm-1:30pm for an informational webinar on the Milwaukee Rental Housing Resource Center. You will learn about the progress made to launch the center and from co-partners who are working together on this unique, collaborative effort to improve housing stability in Milwaukee. UEDA's Take Root Milwaukee homeownership program is currently currently working on a campaign that aims to educate Milwaukee-area residents who are concerned about losing their home to bank foreclosure or property tax delinquency. The TRM Marketing Workgroup has put together a Foreclosure Prevention Outreach Kit for individuals and organizations to use get the word out about resources and options available that may help people stay in their home. Feel free to share images & messages with your networks!

In late November, our Take Root Milwaukee program will be partnering with the Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce on a homeownership workshop focused on connecting service-members and veterans to resources and loan products that are designed specifically to help them become homeowners. If you work with veterans or are connected to anyone who could benefit from learning about these resources, contact

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Cooperative Learning Series sessions this year! In collaboration with Walnut Way Conservation Corp. we welcomed more than 100 individuals to online sessions where they learned about the history of cooperative ownership and connected with resources that can help in the research and planning phase of starting their own cooperative enterprise. On October 22, we hosted our final session of 2020 with the Philadelphia Area Cooperative Alliance. ADVOCACY OPPORTUNITY: Small Business Lending
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) recently released a detailed outline of policy considerations for formulating a rule for Section 1071, which was mandated by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010. It requires lending institutions to report demographic information about applications for small business loans (including race and gender). Section 1071 would significantly improve publicly available small business data. This recent story in the Milwaukee Business Journal examines racial disparities in capital access for small businesses and provides more details on the importance of this data. The National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) has also published an initial analysis of the CFPB outline. Any member of the public can comment to the CFPB. Comments should be emailed to no later than December 14, 2020.
