Work FutureBuilding Pathways to Opportunity for Boys & Men of Color will be held on Wednesday, October 21st.  This year's Summit will again feature interactive "lab" discussions that will focus on specific areas connected to improving workforce and employment outcomes for boys and men of color: Networks, 21st Century Skills, Entrepreneurship and Pipelines & Pathways.  

UEDA's annual Summit is your opportunity to connect and network with a diverse group of stakeholders, and identify ways to work collaboratively on this important issue.

UEDA Member Milestones

Six Wisconsin organizations will receive Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) funds from the Treasury. CDFI funds are an important source of investment that spurs economic growth and small business support in low-income communities through lending, education and technical assistance. Congrats to UEDA Members Northwest Side CDC and WWBIC on their awards!

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin announced that Wisconsin will receive VA grants to prevent and end veteran homelessness. Center for Veterans Issues will receive one of four Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program grants. Read the Press Release >>

LISC Milwaukee is now accepting nominations for the 2016 Milwaukee Awards for Neighborhood Development Innovation (MANDI). Nominations will be accepted through October 19, 2015.

Congratulations to ACTS Housing on receiving a $200,000 Zilber Family Foundation award! In total, the foundation recently awarded $1 million in grants to five Milwaukee organizations working on housing and job training initiatives. Read more >>

MATC announces free tuition for low-income students
Called the MATC Promise, the college is creating a privately funded program so low-income, academically qualified high school seniors can attend tuition-free, starting next fall. Read more >>

Wisconsin Affordable Housing Information
Wisconsin Partnership for Housing Development and coalition of statewide partners recently put together AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND HOMELESSNESS: WISCONSIN - a tool that provides a snapshot of what affordable housing looks like in the state.

WUWM highlights the positive impact on The Artery, by organizations like Riverworks Development Corp. and the Beerline Trail initiative on Milwaukee’s north side. Read more >>

Wisconsin Job Honor Awards
With a vision to honor Wisconsin employees who have persevered through significant employment barriers, the first annual Wisconsin Job Honor Awards is calling for award nominations. Nominations, due by October 15, and can be submitted at www.jobhonor.org

Minority, Women-Owned Firms on the Rise
While nationally the increase in new firms was just 2 percent, in Wisconsin the number of firms actually declined slightly, by 0.2 percent. However, women-owned firms companies grew by 28 percent nationally, and by 20 percent in Wisconsin. Read more >>
