  • 16th Annual Community Development Summit - Still Time to Register!
    Building Economic & Social Inclusion with the Disability Community
    Held on Thursday, October 5th, during the first week of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, this year's Summit aims to increase awareness around the connection between people with disabilities and poverty. Attendees will be encouraged to identify ways they can individually and collectively improve accessibility and foster an inclusive culture in their workplace, activities, programs and events.   • Through our Food Enterprise Development Network (FEDN) project, we are excited to be partnering with PRISM EDC as they work to launch a new shared-space, commercial kitchen in Milwaukee's Sherman Park neighborhood. If you are aware of food-based businesses looking for processing and storage space, please have them contact Jessica at jessica@uedawi.org.
UEDA Member Milestones


LISC Milwaukee is investing $5 million in a newly-created, statewide Wisconsin Business Opportunity Fund, which will leverage WHEDA’s federal New Markets Tax Credits to unleash private capital for high-impact economic development projects.

Congratulations to WWBIC and Forward Community Investments on being awarded over $1.5 million combined by the CDFI Fund! Dollars are used to increase access to credit, capital, and other critical financial services for disadvantaged businesses and low-income communities.

Happy 5th Anniversary to the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce! Help them celebrate at their September 27th Anniversary Celebration & Business Showcase.

The North West Side CDC's film “Seeking Century City” will screen during the 2017 Milwaukee Film Festival on Thursday, October 12 (5pm) at the Times Cinema!

Public Meetings on Transit Oriented Development

The City of Milwaukee, Historic King Drive BID, and the Harbor District are hosting two open house kick-off meetings to discuss how the proposed King Drive and Walker's Point streetcar extensions can generate new housing options, improve public open spaces, connect people to jobs, and attract new businesses. Stop by a session to share input.

MKE Elevate Plan - Provide Your Feedback by 9/30
Through September 30, the City of Milwaukee Health Department will be collecting public comment, feedback, and additional ideas for consideration on their Draft MKE Elevate Community Health Improvement Plan. Click HERE to review the draft and then provide your thoughts and feedback.

Changes for African American Chamber of Commerce
Over the coming years, the Chamber plans to move its offices to the Wellness Commons, undergo strategic planning that will allow them to expand their revolving loan fund, and eventually transition to a Community Development Financial Institution. Lean more >>

Redevelopment Plan for 30th Street Industrial Corridor
Que El-Amin, graduate of Milwaukee’s ACRE program, and principal with Scott Crawford Inc., is working on a multi-year, $60 million plan that will revitalize the Corridor by replacing vacant industrial space with 190 apartments and a business incubator. Lean more >>


LISC Milwaukee MANDI Nominations are now open!
The Milwaukee Award for Neighborhood Development & Innovation (MANDI) recognizes outstanding efforts in community development in our city. Webinar: Engaging Banks in Workforce Development
Banks and organizations partnering with them can play an important role in workforce development. On September 26 (2pm CST) speakers will present tools and information for banks to engage in workforce development activities that may help them fulfill their obligations under the Community Reinvestment Act. Launch MKE Business Academy Recruiting Now!
This new Milwaukee startup program is aimed at urban entrepreneurs. Beginning on October 2, Launch MKE will offer its inaugural, interactive 10-week Business Academy course to both aspiring and established entrepreneurs in Milwaukee. Classes will be taught by local experts and cover the basics of starting a business: licensing, financial literacy, market research, cash flow and more over 10 weeks. Details & Enrollment >>
