OUR WORK

Each year, UEDA engages 1,200+ professionals in the community and economic development sector by:

  • Promoting sustainable homeownership, foreclosure, and home repair resources
  • Connecting individuals and families to financial education and services
  • Connecting emerging food-based businesses to small business resource providers
  • Investing in underserved communities and neighborhoods
  • Provide capacity-building and technical assistance support to nonprofit organizations
  • Strengthening Milwaukee’s small business and entrepreneurship resources sector
  • Advocating for a regional transportation system to enhance workforce mobility

Specific program areas include:

Membership: UEDA provides capacity-building, information, and networking opportunities to our members and partners through monthly newsletters, a listserv and events. Learn more about becoming a UEDA Member or view our Membership Flyer here.

Collaborative Projects: UEDA is often asked to serve as an intermediary and help facilitate efforts to address complex issues. Examples include Take Root Milwaukee, Bank On Greater Milwaukee, Small Business Affinity Group, Financial Equity Group, Food Enterprise Development Network and the Coalition for Advancing Transit. UEDA provides staff and administrative support to these projects, facilitation of meetings and coordination of projects and activities.

Events: UEDA hosts several events including the annual UEDA Community Gathering, Community Development Summit, our annual fundraiser, Carnival Milwaukee, and our Emerging Topics in Economic Development series.

Contracted Services: UEDA has provided project management, program evaluation and fiscal agent services to a variety of organizations and projects over the past 20 years, focusing on housing, neighborhood revitalization and nonprofit capacity.

Technical Assistance: UEDA has served as certified contractor for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), LISC Milwaukee, and City of Milwaukee Community Development Grants Administration (CDGA), providing technical assistance to Wisconsin agencies that develop and provide affordable housing. We focus on organizational development and capacity issues specific to the agency.
