Congratulations to the Milwaukee Public Library Business, Technology, and Periodicals Department on the grand opening of their new Business Commons space at the Central Library! The space is open for networking and collaboration opportunities with the flexibility of working outside of traditional study or office spaces. It will also be supported through programming. Menomonee Valley Partners is proud to announce that 117 individuals completed Valley Skills Courses over the 2021-2022 academic year. These courses were offered through a partnership between Menomonee Valley Partners and Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) to upskill current Valley employees. MyVoteWI at www.myvote.wi.gov helps voters find information about election dates, voting locations, what's on the ballot, and more by address search.
Bolder Advocacy, in partnership with The Democracy Capacity Project, just launched a new series, Nonprofit Voter Assistance. These guides work to empower nonprofits to run effective civic engagement, maintain compliance with complex state laws related to advocacy, and more. Wisconsin Disability Vote Coalition has updated their resources in advance of this year's elections. They are a non-partisan effort to help ensure full participation in the electoral process of voters with disabilities. Check out their resources here>>
The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) will offer a new financing product in January 2023 to enable Wisconsin homeowners to make improvements and needed repairs. The Home Improvement Loan Program is a fixed-rate, first or second mortgage available to homeowners statewide to enable them to fix or update aspects of their current home rather than purchase a new one. Help inform the City of Milwaukee Health Department’s 2023-2028 Community Health Improvement Plan! Join one of four meetings this fall. Meetings will include a brief presentation of the Community Health Assessment, results of the Priority Issue Survey and photo campaign, and small group discussions to prioritize top issues. Small Business & Nonprofits
Responses are wanted for the Federal Reserve's 2022 Small Business Credit Survey. The Small Business Credit Survey is open for responses by currently operating businesses, those recently closed or those about to launch. By taking the survey, you contribute to information that directly informs decision-makers and help small business owners. All responses are confidential and the survey takes approximately 10 minutes. The Latino Chamber of Commerce of SE WI is hosting a Lenders Fair on November 16th from 6-8pm at MATC, 816 W. National Avenue. Small business owners can meet lenders and resource providers. View the flier here; Vendor & other registration information here.
The date for MarketPlace 2022 Conference has been set for December 6th and December 7th! At MARKETPLACE, minority-, woman-, veteran- and LGBTQ+-owned businesses—and small businesses of all kinds—can learn from and connect with resource providers, government representatives, corporate buyers and business professionals to develop new partnerships and pursue new contracts.This event connects business owners from across Wisconsin looking to do business with state, federal and local governments as well as the private sector. The Main Street Bounceback Grants program deadline was extended to 12/31/22! This grant provides $10,000 to new or existing businesses and non-profit organizations moving into vacant properties in Wisconsin’s downtowns and commercial corridors. Funds can be used to pay leases or mortgages, operational expenses and other business costs related to the newly opened location. Be sure to connect with your local Business Improvement District (BID), association, or Chamber of Commerce for guidance on applying for the grant and gather required documents. Reminder that the State Bar of Wisconsin and Marquette Volunteer Legal Clinic has a program offering free legal consultation. Virtual appointments are available weekly and can be set up with an experienced business law attorney at request. Volunteer attorneys have helped small business clients with a variety of issues including employment, real estate, entity formation, contract questions and others.
